What are Hormones?
There are over 200 hormones in the body all doing hundreds of different jobs. Hormones are your body’s chemical messengers. They travel in your bloodstream to communicate with tissues or organs. Almost every activity in our body is controlled by hormones; they dictate our digestion, our physical drives, growth, energy, how much we weigh, to name a few.*
What does Hormonal Balance mean?
When in a healthy balanced state, you are unaware of your hormones doing their job. Many hormones provide multiple functions. For example, the thyroid hormone governs your energy, appetite, mood, weight and body temperature. Thyroid hormone is also responsible for the health of your skin, hair and nails. The hormone system is a very complex system that requires the appropriate building blocks to function optimally.*
We can provide many of the building blocks by our lifestyle choices. Focusing on a healthy lifestyle helps to keep your hormones in balance.
The core elements for maintaining general health: nutrition, exercise, stress management, sleep, hydration and toxic load reduction are the same for supporting your hormonal system. Let’s look at a few lifestyle choices that effect your hormonal balance, and some essential oils to support your hormonal balance.*

This is a good response when you are truly in danger but not for a normal state. The problem in today’s high stress world, our systems are operating in the “fight or flight” mode for prolonged periods of time and therefore, for most of us, it requires a conscious stress management effort. Reduce toxic load. Toxins are found in pesticides, plastics, household chemicals, household products, and even in the air we breathe. Many of these chemicals are in the products and utensils that we use on a daily basis. Many of these chemicals are in the products and utensils that we use on a daily basis. Although the toxins are hard on our detoxification pathways: liver, kidneys and skin, many products contain toxins that are hormone disruptors in that they mimic hormones produced by our body and can bind to the receptor sites thus block our natural hormones.*
Awareness is the first step. We can reduce our toxic load by replacing toxic products with non-toxic ones. Cleaning products are a prime example. Most commercial cleaning products include very toxic chemicals. However, you can replace these toxic cleaners with natural alternatives. Internally, in addition to reducing the consumption of toxic chemicals, we can support the detoxification process with our diet. The citrus essential oils are very cleansing and can be used internally and externally for cleansing.
